Police closing in on Berbice double murder

Police have made some headway in solving the Old Years Night double murder at Bush Lot Corentyne, Berbice. Investigators in Berbice have been able to obtain information from persons who were detained following the killing of two brothers during a robbery on Old Years Night.

Lot Farm, was shot at point blank range and his brother Harichand Samaroo, 46, also called “Davo”, a farmer and father of three of Lot 81 Bush Lot Farm, Corentyne, was beaten by the bandits and died while receiving medical treatment.
Several persons were arrested as Police launched a probe.
According to a source close to the investigation, three persons have been questioned and Police have been able to get some information as they seek to solve the crime.
Meanwhile, the suspect in the Philippi murder remains in custody.
Guyana Defence Force Lieutenant Mark Begot was killed on Old Year’s Day at his home village when he and another man got into an argument at a bar. Begot was stabbed once.

death as shock and haemorrhage due to a perforated lung as a result of a stab wound. The suspect turned himself in on Wednesday in the company of a lawyer and the High Court on Friday granted the Police permission to further detain the suspect without laying charges. On Friday the Police had sought advice from the Director Public Prosecutions on the matter.
