Police Constable to face Judge, jury for raping minor
Michael Kendall, the Police Constable who was charged earlier in the year for raping a child, has been committed to stand trial for the offence at the Demerara High Court.
On Friday, Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus, following a Paper Committal, ruled that sufficient evidence was led by the prosecution to put the cop on trial for the offence.
According to reports received, the Magistrate informed Kendall that he will go on trial before a Judge and jury at the next practicable sitting of the Demerara Criminal Assizes.
It is alleged that on December 3, 2020, in Demerara, he engaged in sexual penetration with a child under the age of 16. The rape accused remains out on $300,000 bail pending his trial.
Meanwhile, the matter against Kendall’s alleged accomplice, Eion Franklin, is continuing in the Magistrates’ Courts. Like Kendall, Franklin has also been released on bail.
