The Guyana Police Force (GPF) continued its series of safety and behavioural education sessions for schoolchildren across Regions One (Barima-Waini), Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) and Four (Demerara-Mahaica).
On Friday, Senior Superintendent Krishna Ramana, Commander of Regional Division One, and ranks from the Mabaruma Police Station visited Sheba Nursery School in Mabaruma Settlement. During the visit, officers engaged the students in discussions on basic personal safety, road safety, and the importance of listening to teachers and parents. The session concluded with the distribution of goodies to the children. The visit is part of Regional Division One’s ongoing community engagement and early safety education initiatives.
Meanwhile, in Region Two, officers from the Regional Traffic Department conducted school safety lectures as the new school term began. The two-day outreach, led by Sergeant Blair, took place on Monday and Wednesday. Schools visited included Dredge Creek Nursery and Primary Schools, Maria’s Lodge Nursery School, and Somerset and Berks Primary Schools. Students were educated on pedestrian safety, proper use of bicycles, school attendance, respectful behaviour, and the importance of life jackets while travelling on the Pomeroon River. Dozens of teachers and students attended the sessions.
Additionally, on Friday, Corporal Charitar and Constable McBean delivered a road safety lecture at St Anne’s Primary School, Agricola. The session, themed “Do the Right Thing”, was attended by 43 students and five teachers. Officers highlighted safe road practices, including the dangers of riding in overloaded minibuses, the correct use of pedestrian crossings, walking in single file beyond the white line, and wearing bright-coloured clothing at night. Students were also warned against bringing drugs or weapons to school. The lecture concluded with a question-and-answer session, allowing students to clarify safety concerns.
