Police destroy 20,000 ganja plants along Canje River

The Police are on the hunt for two males following the discovery of a marijuana field at Cow Savannah, Canje River, Region Six.
Based on information received, a party of policemen conducted an eradication exercise at Cow Savannah, Canje River, Berbice, between 06:00h and 14:00h on Friday.
On arrival at the location, the policemen observed two armed men fleeing the scene. As such, Police gave chase but the two men discharged several rounds at the officers who returned fire.
The men eventually made good their escape.
However, the Police ranks returned to the field measuring about three and a half acres with approximately 20,000 marijuana plants ranging from four to eight inches in height.
In addition, two camps were located and during a search, two live rounds of 12-gauge cartridges, one Stihl chainsaw, one Stihl weeding machine, one Evinrude outboard engine, one water pump and a quantity of dried cannabis and seeds were found.
The camps as well as the marijuana plants along with the dried cannabis and seeds were all destroyed. The other items were taken to Central Police Station, New Amsterdam, where they were lodged.
