Police destroy over $9M in ganja at Golden Grove seawall

One man is in Police custody following the discovery of a ganja farm with at least 150 plants ranging from two feet to 11 feet in height at Golden Grove, East Coast Demerara (ECD).

Based on reports received, Police carried out an intelligence-led operation at the Golden Grove Seawall on Wednesday, where the suspect was seen tending to the plants.

The plants, which had an estimated weight of 130 kilograms, were destroyed.
Upon the suspect’s arrest, the Police conducted a search of a shack during which 21 transparent plastic bags and two black plastic bags containing a quantity of dried cannabis weighing 1873 grams were found, along with camouflage clothing.
The street value of the 130 kilograms of cannabis is estimated at $9 million. The suspect remains in custody pending charges.
