The Guyana Police Force stumbled upon over 200 pieces of ammunition hidden in a paint can that was left in an abandoned car. The discovery was made sometime around 12:30h on Thursday.
According to the Police, acting on information received from a concerned citizen, ranks went to Gordon Street, Kitty, Georgetown, and conducted a search on a suspiciously parked car.
During the search of the vehicle, ranks uncovered a one-gallon paint can containing 234 live rounds of .40 and one live round of .45 calibre ammunition.
No arrest has been made, however Police are investigating the incident.
This find comes on the heels of Police in ‘E’ Division (Linden/Kwakwani) discovering an AK-47 rifle, two magazines and 15 rounds of matching ammunition, 15 .38 live rounds, 39 .9mm live rounds and 21 .223 live rounds along with a magazine.
The Police said that whilst cleaning a house in Linden, a citizen observed a haversack behind a wardrobe and upon examination, found the firearm and ammunition. He subsequently made a report and the Police took possession of the cache.
