Ranks of the Guyana Police Force in A Division (Georgetown-East Bank Demerara) on Friday evening unearthed a high-profile weapon and several rounds of ammunition and ammunition components in Kingston, Georgetown.
The discovery was made sometime around 18:30h. According to reports received, acting on information received, the officers went to a bushy area in Kingston, where they found a haversack.
Upon examination, they unearthed a number of illegal weaponry. These include an AK47 rifle, an extended .380 magazine and 196 live rounds of 7.62 x 39.40 and .380 ammunitions.
No arrests have been made but an investigation is nevertheless in progress.
