Police and Grove Hi-Tech battled their way to cop the first two semi-final spots of the inaugural Turbo Energy Drink Knock out Football Tournament on Tuesday evening at the Ministry of Education Ground, Carifesta.
Police started as favourites but were made their work hard for their 1-0 win over
Kuru Kuru Warriors. Rawl Haynes made the difference in the 40th minute but Warriors had a chance to level the scores in the second stanza but saw their penalty shot saved in front of a sizable crowd.
They had more chances due to erratic defending by the lawmen but still did not manage to make a conversion.
In the other fixture, Grove Hi Tech won 3-1 against Pele FC as talented forward Domini Garnett led with a double via goals in the 7th and 59th minute. Denzil Crawford scored the other in the 27th minute.
Young Abassi Jarvis had equalized in the 41st to give Pele some hope especially with some strikes from veteran Travis ‘Zoro’ Grant but Grove used their experience to stay ahead.
The tournament continues this evening at the same venue with the second round of quarter-finals. In the first match at 18:30 hrs, Camptown will battle Linden’s Silver Shattas after which Pouderoyen tackle Mahaica Determinators from 21:00 hrs.
