Police hunt Guyhoc man for mechanic’s murder

Ietectives are hunting a Guyhoc, Greater Georgetown man in connection with the murder of Orrette West, 29, of Tucville Terrace, East La Penitence, who was stabbed to death at Plaisance, East Coast Demerara on Friday

Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum told Guyana Times that the Police received information about the suspect and were currently pursuing him. He also confirmed that the stabbing might have stemmed from a December 2015 incident involving the two men. The Police in a release stated that the father of one was stabbed during an argument with another man over an old grievance.

However, persons who witnessed the stabbing told this publication that the now dead man was dancing with a woman when the suspect walked towards him, hugged him and inflicted the fatal wound.

The man was reportedly stabbed to the chest after which he collapsed and died almost immediately. He was picked up and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Relatives of the dead man have confirmed that he died as a result of a single stab wound to his chest. The post-mortem on his body was performed on Monday by Dr Nehaul Singh. The relatives are calling on the Police to arrest the suspect who is known to the family.

On the day of the stabbing incident, the dead man’s mother told this newspaper, her son did not have any issue with anyone, and she refuted the claims that he was involved in a fight with the suspect in late part December.

The man leaves to mourn his four-year-old daughter, parents and other relatives. The Police are continuing their hunt for the suspect, who is suspected to have absconded.
