Police increase patrols around Stabroek Market, environs

Just over one week after vendors who trade around the Stabroek Market area voiced concerns about the increase in robberies there, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) on Saturday revealed that it is ramping up its efforts to ensure that citizens are safe while conducting business during the Christmas season.

Mounted Branch ranks patrolling on Saturday

Members of the Police Force’s Mounted Branch and Canine Section on Saturday conducted patrols at the Stabroek Market and vendors’ arcade.

Canine units patrolling along Water Street, Georgetown

Several vendors, who spoke with this publication, had said that pickpockets have been touring the area, waiting for unsuspecting prey.
On Saturday last, a major retailer on Water Street, Georgetown, released CCTV footage of a robbery that occurred in front of the store. The video, seen by this publication, showed a man clad in short blue pants, a white T-shirt, and a black hat following a woman along the road. However, she came to a stop in front of the store, and the man approached her from behind and relieved her of her gold chain.
