Police preliminary investigations revealed that on Friday, at about 4:15h, a Police roadblock exercise was in effect on the public road leading to the Berbice River Bridge when a dark blue Toyota Carina 212 motor car, HB 6999, was seen approaching the bridge, but suddenly made a turn in a suspected bid to escape the lawmen.

Upon seeing this, Police gave chase and intercepted the vehicle.
A search of the vehicle unearthed a gray Diesel haversack in the spare wheel compartment of the trunk, and when opened, the haversack was found to contain a bulky parcel wrapped in transparent plastic within a black plastic bag. The parcel was opened in the presence of the suspect, and the large quantity of cannabis was found.
The suspect was told of the offence committed and was arrested. He reportedly told Police, “Is me weed, and I went going and sell off over the river, but I turn back when I see the block”.
The ganja was later weighed and amounted to 4 kilograms. The suspect remains in custody pending charges.
