Police intercept speeding canter carrying over 120lbs ganja
Police on Sunday unearthed a large quantity of marijuana in a canter along the Helena No 1 Public Road, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
According to reports received, Police intercepted a motor canter bearing registration number GYY 8519 that was allegedly speeding along the roadway. At the time, the 43-year-old driver along with a woman and her 11-month-old baby were occupants.

The ranks reportedly asked him to produce his driver’s licence but he claimed that he did not have it on him. As such, he was asked to drive the canter, which was transporting hollow blocks, sand and a wheelbarrow to the Mahaica Police Station.
A search was conducted in the tray during which two salt bags and two transparent parcels were unearthed under the sand.
The bags and parcels were removed and upon inspection, they contained ganja, which when weighed amounted to 54.790 kilograms.
They were arrested and an investigation is underway.
