Almost two weeks after being on the run, the 21-year-old suspect who reportedly set a Kaneville, East Bank Demerara (EBD) home on fire, resulting in the death of a seven-month-old baby, was arrested on Friday.
Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum confirmed that the 21-year-old of Lot 906 4th Field, Kaneville, EBD, was arrested at a mining camp in Mahdia, Region Eight (Potaro-
Siparuni), after Police received information about his whereabouts.
Blanhum noted that the suspect will be transported to the city where he will be grilled and processed for court. Nevertheless, he noted that with the main suspect in custody, detectives are optimistic that he will provide the names of the others who were involved in the heinous crime.
On the morning of January 23, 2017, the charred remains of seven-month-old Romain Levi Seth were pulled from among the debris hours after the suspect and his accomplices set the Lot 462 Third Field, Kaneville, EBD house on fire.
The infant’s remains were found in the same area where he was left sleeping after he was put to bed by his grandmother the evening before.
The fire reportedly started in the same bedroom the child was in, after an explosive device was hurled through the window by the suspect.
Guyana Times was told that the young man and his friends had threatened to set the house alight after the owner, Michelle Menez, had made a report to the Police station about their marijuana business close to her home.
The young men were reportedly arrested but later released by Police. It was upon their release that they threatened to kill each member of the house and accused Menez of being a Police informant.
After the fire, none of them were seen.
