The Guyana Police Force has launched an investigation into the alleged assault of international visitor Antony D’Oliveira, host of the Jumps Travel Documentary YouTube channel, following the circulation of a video capturing the incident in Georgetown.
In a statement, police said the incident is being treated seriously, noting that acts of violence against any individual are unacceptable and contrary to the laws of Guyana, as well as the country’s values of safety, hospitality, and respect.
Investigators are currently reviewing video footage of the incident, conducting enquiries, and pursuing all available leads with the aim of identifying and apprehending the suspect in accordance with the law.

The Guyana Police Force also expressed concern for D’Oliveira and reiterated its commitment to ensuring that Guyana remains a safe and welcoming destination for both visitors and residents. Members of the public with information that may assist the investigation are encouraged to contact the nearest police station.
The alleged assault was documented in a video uploaded to D’Oliveira’s YouTube channel titled “I was assaulted in Georgetown, Guyana 🇬🇾.”
The footage shows the tourist entering the La Penitence Market in Georgetown, where he is seen passing two men at one of the market’s entrances.
According to the video seen by this publication, as D’Oliveira walked past the men, he greeted them, saying, “hey boys, you good?” Moments later, one of the men, identified as the suspected assailant, extended his hand and slapped D’Oliveira, telling him, “Go so with your camera.”
The video has since circulated widely on social media, prompting public concern and calls for swift action.

Prior to the police statement, Tourism, Industry and Commerce Minister, Susan Rodrigues, condemned the incident in a post on her professional Facebook page.
“The Ministry of Tourism, Industry, & Commerce, and the Guyana Tourism Authority, unequivocally condemn the recent attack on international visitor Antony D’Oliveira, host of the Jumps Travel Documentary YouTube channel,” the minister stated.
She described the incident as “wholly unacceptable,” noting that it runs contrary to the values of hospitality, safety, and respect for which Guyana and its people are known.
Rodrigues emphasized that the safety and well-being of visitors and residents remain a top priority, adding that the ministry and the Guyana Tourism Authority are committed to working closely with law enforcement, tourism stakeholders, and local communities to ensure the country remains a secure destination.
She further called on the Guyana Police Force to conduct a “thorough and expeditious investigation” and to take all necessary steps to apprehend the individual responsible.
