Police Sergeant dies in Essequibo Coast crash

A Police Sergeant died on his way to the Suddie Public Hospital after he crashed at Land of Plenty Public Road, Essequibo Coast, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), on Sunday.

Dead: Lakhan Persaud called “Ravi”

Dead is 25-year-old Lakhan Persaud, called “Ravi”, of Columbia, Essequibo Coast.
Reports are at about 14:00h, Persaud was driving motor car PRR 5764 at a very fast rate of speed, heading in a southern direction when he lost control of the vehicle and ran off the public road. He then slammed into several parked vehicles outside of Balram Kawal Spare Parts Store on the eastern side of the road. As a result of the impact, the policeman’s car tilted to the right and came to a halt, pinning the sergeant, who was thrown out of his seat.
This newspaper was told that residents in the area rushed to the cop’s assistance and pulled him from the wreckage. He was picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the Suddie Public Hospital. He, however, died on his way to the hospital.
Meanwhile, the owner of the spare parts store, Kawal said that he suffered damage to three of his cars – one of which he bought mere days ago.

Persaud was the nephew of the late former Assistant Commissioner of Police Balram Persaud, who also died in an accident on February 5, 2016, along the West Bank of Demerara public road.
