fter a major breakthrough, ranks of the Guyana Police Force captured a man who was wanted in connection with several armed robberies at Bagotville, West Bank Demerara early Sunday morning.
The 24-year-old male was hiding out at a house in David Rose Street, Bagotville, when Police arrested him just before 06:00h.
However, the suspect did not go with law enforcement officers peacefully and allegedly assaulted ranks as he was being escorted to the waiting Police vehicle.
The Police in a statement, on Sunday, claimed that the man tried to disarm a rank of his service weapon and in the process, the said rank “discharged a round” and the suspect was shot below his right knee. An investigation was launched into the shooting. Up to news time, the suspect was said to be under Police guard at West Demerara Regional Hospital, reportedly in a stable condition, nursing a single gunshot wound to his right leg.
Investigations into the matter are continuing.
