Police Sports Department’s male and female teams crowned football champions

The male and female football teams of the Guyana Police Force Sports Department on Wednesday displayed superior skills and techniques at the Police Sports Club Ground at Eve Leary to be crowned champions of the Force’s 183rd Anniversary Football Competition.
In the first match, the Sports Department female team eased to a 3-0 win over the team from Regional Division 4(A), compliments of Melinda Lurson, Analisa Vincent and Deekola Chester.
In the second match, the Sports Department male team rebounded in grand style from a 1-goal disadvantage in the first half to hammer in three (3) goals in the second half and end the game 3-1 in their favour. Scoring the lone goal for Regional Division #9 was Adrian Aaron, while Trevon Pluck (two goals) and Pernell Schultz (one goal) sealed the deal for the Sports Department.
The MVP Award in the female category went to Analisa Vincent of the Sports Department, while Travis Pluck of the Sports Department shared the MVP Award in the male category with Adrian Aaron of Regional Division #9.
Travis Hercules of Regional Division #7, who scored six (6) goals, received the Most Goals Trophy for the Male category, while Nichola Chester, with 3 goals, received the Most Goals Trophy for the Female category.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, President of the Police Football Club, Senior Superintendent Jermaine Johnson, applauded the 24 teams that participated in the competition from all the Police regions and branches. Mr. Johnson congratulated the winners of the tournament, encouraged them to remain humble and disciplined, and advised them to continue training hard and to further develop their skills on the football field.
Also present at the event were DSP Donald Alli, Secretary of the Police Football Club; ASP Tiffany Williams-Singh, Sports Officer; retired Superintendent Colin Boyce, Sports Development Officer; and other ranks and fans. (GPF)
