Acting Crime Chief Paul Williams has stated that two of the three suspects who broke out of an East Bank Demerara (EBD) Police Station on Tuesday afternoon, are still on the run.
He further told Guyana Times that, “investigations are ongoing both externally and departmentally.” It was reported that ranks at the Golden Grove Police Station,

located on the East Bank of Demerara, had taken a group of 13 inmates out from the lock-ups to the holding area for them to freshen up.
It was during this exercise that the three suspects made good their escape via an opening on the western wall of the lock-ups. A piece of metal, believed to have been broken off from the lock-ups door and used to break the wall, was subsequently found by the Police.
Just before midnight on Tuesday, one of the escapees, 25-year-old murder accused Wayne Gilbert of Lot 30 West La Penitence, Georgetown, was handed over to the authorities at the Brickdam Police Station by his father.
He was scheduled to be arraigned before a city Magistrate on Wednesday for the murder of Rawle Rodrigues, which occurred on January 20, 2017, at Stabroek Square.
The other two escapees, who are still on the run, have been identified as armed robbery suspect Ivre Hooper, 25, of James Street, Albouystown, Georgetown; and Derrol James, 22, of Lot 131 Middle Walk, Buxton, East Coast Demerara, who was

arrested on a simple larceny charge.
On Wednesday, the acting Crime Chief had told reporters that efforts are afoot to recapture the duo who are of significant interest to the Police.
“We are checking… we have some information about where the second person is likely to be, so we are making checks,” he had stated.
Williams had noted too that there should be more ranks present at the station when such exercises are being carried out.
“The escape would have occurred because of poor supervision; there should have been more ranks present. At the time of bringing those persons into a certain area, there should have been more ranks present around there and because of that, it gave (the suspects) the opportunity to do what they did to make good their escape,” the acting Crime Chief asserted.
As a result of the breakout, the supervisor who was in charge of the shift during which the incident occurred has been placed under close arrest as investigations are ongoing. Williams further told Guyana Times on Thursday that if any other officers are guilty of “neglect or is culpable” then they too will be dealt with.
The Police Force is asking anyone with information that would lead to the rearrests of Gilbert and James to make contact with the nearest Police Station or any of the Force’s emergency/hotline numbers.
