Police take time off to celebrate anniversary

As part of the 177th-anniversary celebrations on Guyana Police Force, ranks of ‘B’ Division took time off to join with youths from police clubs and compete in both sport and fun games.

Sub-division 3, West Berbice dominated the one-day event which took place at All Saints Ground on Princess Elizabeth Road in New Amsterdam.

West Berbice surge to the top of the field in athletics and football while Sub-division 2 (Corentyne) dominated at cricket; Sub-division 1 (New Amsterdam/Canje/East Bank) took the march pass.

In the female 80-meter dash Devita Jackson won from Reiva Grant as West Berbice dominate the event as they also did when the males raced over the same distance. Titus Webster won from Disu-D Morris.

In the girls U-8, 60-meter Okeish Jones finished first ahead of Shay Roberts both of West Berbice while in the boy’s race Cody Sam of West Berbice came in ahead of Yuanton Crandon of Corentyne.

In the 11-a-side five over softball cricket competition, Sub-division 2 had two teams in the final and they were declared joint winners.

Meanwhile, in the dominoes events, Gold of New Amsterdam chalked up 87 games to claim the top spot with Massive of West Berbice 79, Unruly of Ne Amsterdam 78 and Royalty of West Berbice 77. The police women’s team CPG played a good host and finished in cellar on 62 games.

The two teams received trophies and cash incentives donated by the Commander Ian Amsterdam while the third placed team received a trophy.

At the end of the day’s activities, Amsterdam presented Inspector Cynthia Kelly of the Fort Wellington Police, West Berbice with the over winning trophy. (Andrew Carmichael)
