Police thwart gas station robbery

Police in B Division (Berbice) have nabbed four men after they reportedly thwarted a planned robbery of a gas station in Port Mourant, Berbice.
Reports are the four men, who are known to Police, were nabbed at Number One Village, East Berbice, Corentyne, following a car chase and shootout with law enforcement officers.
Guyana Times understands the incident occurred at about 14:00h on Thursday. Speaking with the media, Divisional Commander Lyndon Alves said that Police received information that the men were hatching a robbery. He noted that ranks

set up a sting operation at the gas station the men were planning to rob.
However, as the men approached the gas station in a white Toyota motorcar, they realised they were being followed and drove away. The Police gave chase and the driver of the car lost control of the vehicle, ending up in a ditch at Number One Village.
This publication was told that three of the suspected bandits then exited, firing shots in the process and the Police returned fire. However, following a brief chase the men surrendered and were taken to the Albion Police Station The driver of the car, who was reportedly trapped in the car was nabbed.
Police were however unable to locate the weapons the men were carrying. They have since combed the area but came up empty handed.
An investigation has been launched.
