Police track stolen motorcycles across Berbice 

The repeated theft of motorcycles across Berbice, particularly Honda XR models, has become an increasing concern for Police.
Intelligence indicates that some stolen bikes are being moved between Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) and Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice).

Region Six Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner Shivpersaud Bacchus, told this publication that investigators have received intelligence suggesting motorcycles stolen in Region Five are being transported into Region Six, while motorcycles stolen in Region Six are also being moved into Region Five.
One of the examples of motorcycles being moved from the area where they were stolen dates back to 2016. A motorcycle belonging to Gibran Rawlins was stolen from beneath his home at Fort Ordinance Housing Scheme, East Canje, Region Six. Days later, Rawlins’ brother spotted the motorcycle at Mahaica, Region Five, while travelling towards Georgetown. Police intercepted the rider, Rayan Bynoe, who allegedly told investigators that a man known as “Lil Zip” had given him the motorcycle. He was to take it to Georgetown, where it was to be sold, and he would receive a share of the proceeds. Bynoe was subsequently charged.
A similar cross-region connection has surfaced this year, and Police allege that a motorcycle valued at $319,000 was stolen from Ramdeo Samdeo of Bath Squatting Area, Region Five, between June 4 and 5. The accused, Afraud Khan, called Afraz or “Buckman”, is from Fyrish Village, Region Six.

He appeared before Magistrate Shareefa Parks on July 31. He was granted $150,000 bail after being charged with simple larceny.
A Honda XR150 was reported stolen from Number 72 Village, Corentyne, during the Easter period; another XR150 was reported stolen from Cotton Tree; and there is another case in which Police allege that Fardeen Bacchus, called “Killa”, attempted to steal a black Honda XR150 valued at $520,000 from rice farmer Indradeo Kissoon at Johanna South, Black Bush Polder, on August 21. Bacchus appeared before Magistrate Michelle Matthias on August 27 and was remanded to prison until September 15.
Motorcycle thefts have also been reported from Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice (WCB); Number 48 Village, Corentyne; and Chesney Housing Scheme, also on the Corentyne, among other communities. In some instances, the motorcycles were recovered, while other investigations resulted in arrests and criminal charges.
Police also recovered a motorcycle during a cordon-and-search exercise at Fyrish on August 21.
