Police unearth 10lbs ganja at roadblock

A 34-year-old man has been arrested after being intercepted with a quantity of ganja at a road block erected in front of the Fort Wellington Police Station on the West Coast of Berbice in Region Five.

Based on reports obtained, on Wednesday, at about 18:57h, Police acting on information received intercepted minibus BYY 5866, which was carrying about 10 passengers. The minibus was taken into the station’s compound, and a search of the vehicle was conducted in the presence of its occupants and the driver.
During the search, one red, white and blue travelling bag was found under the conductor’s seat, and upon inspection, two wrapped parcels containing cannabis were found.
It was later found out that the bag belonged to a passenger who had joined the minibus at Rosignol. The suspect was told of the offence, but he denied ownership of the bag. He was nevertheless arrested and is in custody pending charges.
The marijuana, when weighed in the presence of the passengers, amounted to 10 pounds.
