Police unearth 1lb ganja during Stabroek Market raid

A man has been arrested following the discovery of one pound of marijuana during a Police operation at the Stabroek Market in Georgetown.
The exercise was carried out by ranks from the Police Special Branch, Impact Patrol, and CID Brickdam Police Station on Friday, and several persons and stalls were searched therein.
During the operation, a quantity of Ziplock bags containing cannabis sativa was found abandoned in two black plastic bags. When weighed, the ganja amounted to 478 grams.

Meanwhile, the Police also stopped and searched a 20-year-old young man, and found 23 Ziplock bags containing ganja in his pocket. He was told of the offence committed, cautioned, arrested, and taken to the Brickdam Police Station, where the narcotics were weighed and amounted to 31 grams.
Last week the Police arrested a resident of Mahaica, East Coast Demerara (ECD) with 32 grams of ganja during an operation conducted at the Mahaica Market. On the day in question, between 18:50h and 19:10h, ranks of the division conducted a cordon-and-search operation at several homes in the Unity, Mahaica area in pursuit of several wanted persons, arms, and ammunition, and illegal items.
At the Mahaica Market, they apprehended a male and conducted a search on his person and behind a stall where he was at the time. During the search, a black plastic bag containing 12 transparent Ziploc bags with cannabis was found.
The young man was told of the allegation and cautioned, but he denied knowledge of the bag. He was arrested and escorted to the Mahaica Police Station along with the narcotics, which when weighed amounted to 36.2 grams.
