Police unearth $220M worth of ganja

Some $220 million worth of marijuana was unearthed and destroyed by ranks of the Guyana Police Force (GPF), during a drug eradication exercise at Harakuli Creek in the Berbice River.
Police on Saturday said the operation lasted more than 13 hours, on a 12-acre cultivation. Some 40,000 plants were unearthed by a team of 18 police ranks who swooped down on the area.
Police said an additional plot of land was also found that was prepared for cultivation as well as 60 kilograms of harvested cannabis and three camps.
The fields, camps and dried cannabis were all destroyed by fire.
In addition, Police stated that no one was found at the time of the operation, but efforts are being made to determine the owner of the land. Investigations continue.
