Police unearth drugs, gun during Canje River raid

The Guyana Police Force on Wednesday destroyed a whopping 400,000 cannabis plants – which were being cultivated between Ekura and Sand Landing in the Canje River.

The eradication exercise was conducted between 04:30h and 17:30h. According to Police, the cannabis plants were cultivated on 12 farms across 12 acres of land, measuring four to five feet in height. They were destroyed along with eleven makeshift camps, six water pumps, two generators, two ploughing machines and a quantity of cannabis seeds.

Additionally, an outboard 15-horsepower engine, two grasscutters, and a shotgun with spent shells were found abandoned. They were lodged at the Central Police Station. Police are continuing their investigation. (G12)
