Police urging taxi drivers to beware of hijackers

The Guyana Police Force is advising all taxi drivers, particularly those operating Toyota Allion and Premio motor cars, to be on the alert for potential hijackers.

According to the Force’s Public Relations Officer, Jairam Ramlakhan, the modus operandi of these perpetrators is to lure taxi operators with the help of females and leading them to remote locations.car jacking

“(They use) one or two female accomplices to hire cabs in Georgetown en-route to destinations such as Liliendaal, Greater Georgetown, and East and South Ruimveldt, Georgetown. Upon arrival at their requested locations, the drivers are attacked and robbed by two men armed with guns of their personal belongings as well as their motor cars,” Ramlakhan noted.

Meanwhile, the Police Force is also appealing to the general public to provide any information they may have regarding the identities of these individuals perpetrating these types of offences.

Persons are urged to immediately report any such information or any unusual activity they may have observed to the nearest Police station or call telephone numbers 225-6411, 226-1389, 227-2128, 225-2227, 226-7065, 225-0575, 911.

The Police have advised that all information will be treated with strict confidentiality.
