The Guyana Police Force (GPF) successfully concluded a three-day operation to monitor illegal mining in the Deep South Rupununi, Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo), which also saw concerns of miners being highlighted.
Commander for Regional Police Division Nine, Senior Superintendent Raphael Rose and a team of ranks wrapped up the three-day ‘walkabout and stop and search exercise’, which commenced on Thursday.

The team ventured to the Marudi mining area, where they conducted a series of stop-and-search exercises along the trail on persons entering and exiting the area, to monitor illegal miners.
The Police team also visited the campsite, where Commander Rose met and interacted with several miners, who raised their concerns on certain issues such as their well-being and security at large.
As a result, Rose emphasised the importance of having periodic checks in the mining area to establish a level of safety and security for the mining community.
