A Policeman who slapped a woman while in a minibus was on Wednesday fined $10,000 when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Police Constable Robert Hendricks was charged for slapping the woman on January 26, 2017, while at High Street Georgetown.
The court was told that the Constable, who is stationed at Brickdam Police Station, assaulted Shonnette Smith after she objected to him touching her in the minibus.
The prosecution informed the court that the Policeman was seated in the conductor’s seat next to the Virtual Complainant (VC) when he placed his hands around the woman and she pushed them away.
However, Hendricks placed his hand again around her and Smith brushed them away a second time.
The court was further told that the officer became angry and placed his hands around the woman’s waist and told her if she moved his hands again: “I guh put a box in you.”
Smith subsequently removed his hands and was dealt several slaps to her face.
Failure to pay the fine will result in the cop serving three weeks in prison.
