Policemen stabbed by drunken Lethem man

Police in Lethem, Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo) are hunting for a male suspect who reportedly stabbed two constables outside a nightclub in the border town on Sunday morning, a Police report said.
Police spokesman, Superintendent Jairam Ramlakhan identified the injured ranks as Constables Samuels and Chichester.
He said that the duo, along with other ranks, were standing outside the Lethem nightclub when  an intoxicated  male villager, known to the ranks, exited the club and repeatedly held onto the hands of the female rank, but  was rejected.
The male ranks intervened and an argument ensued, during which the suspect whipped out a knife and stabbed Samuels and Chichester about their bodies before fleeing the scene.
The injured Policemen were rushed to the Lethem hospital where Samuels was treated and sent away. However, Chichester was transferred to the Boa Vista General Hospital in Brazil, where he underwent two surgeries. He was stabbed to the wrist and abdomen; according to sources, his intestines were protruding. He remains hospitalised
Police have not yet arrested the suspect, but investigations are ongoing.
