Poonai’s Pharmacy renews cricket sponsorship for RHTY&SC Under-13 team
– team makes donations to Catholic youths
The fruitful relationship between Guyana’s leading youth and sports club, the RHTY&SC, and the leading pharmacy in Berbice, Poonai’s Pharmacy, was renewed on Thursday when Poonai’s Pharmacy handed over a cheque for two hundred thousand dollars as its sponsorship for the next year for the Rose Hall Town Poonai’s Pharmacy under-13 cricket team.
The presentation was done by Managing Director of the pharmacy, Poonai Bhigroog, to Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTY&SC) Organising Secretary Ravindranauth Kissonlall in presence of executive member Tyrone Pottaya and Vice- Captain of the team, Tameshwar Deonandan.
Club Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster expressed gratitude to Bhigroog for his continued support of the club, and stated that the under-13 team is one of eleven teams of the club. The team serves as the nursery team for the Farfan and Mendes Under-15 team, and currently has about thirty members under the leadership of captain Sohail Mohammed.
Tameshwar Deochand is the vice-captain, while Kissoonlall and Pottaya are the cricket managers.
National junior player Jonathan Rampersaud serves as team mentor, along with club Assistant Secretary/CEO Simon Naidu.
The team was formed in 2017 with sponsorship from the company, and emerged as runners-up in the BCB Championships in 2018. In December, 2019, the team defeated Albion in the Trophy Stall Tournament to emerge as Champions in an exciting ‘finals’ at the Hampshire Ground.
The team has recommenced preparation for the restart of the BCB 2021 season, and is confident of defending its title when play starts in the BCB/Romario Shepherd Under-13 tournament.
The team and its management would also be involved in a minimum of twenty social development programmes with the objective of making a positive difference in the lives of others. These would include distribution of cycles, school bags and food hampers to youths, and hampers to the less fortunate.
Bhigroog, in remarks declared himself delighted to renew his sponsorship, as he is very impressed with the work of the club and is well aware of the positive difference the club is making in the lives of others. The Club and team, Bhigroog noted, has been outstanding flag-bearers of his company’s brand, and he has committed himself to a long-term relationship with the club.
Meanwhile, Poonai’s Pharmacy under-13 team has already started to fulfill its commitment to its sponsor by handing over five bicycles to youths attending the St Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church in Port Mourant. The cycles were handed over to the youths under the RHTY&SC /Basil Butcher Memorial Trust Fund. Foster, who handed over the cycles to the youths along with Parish Priest Ramesh Vanan, has said the church had played a major role in the formation of the club, and as such, the RHTY&SC was totally committed to assisting as much as possible.
