Pooran: We got the toss wrong, and we needed a finisher
Guyana Amazon Warriors went down by eight wickets in their second match of the tournament, played against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots at Warner Park. After the match, captain Nicholas Pooran said he got the toss wrong, thinking the ball would spin a bit later in the game.
Pooran also disclosed that Warriors are still working on the combination of the team, but a finisher is required, hence he is batting at number seven.
Asked what went wrong for the Warriors, Pooran said: “Definitely fell short with the bat, 15-20 runs. I think we got the toss wrong. I thought it would spin a little more in the back end. A lot of talented players, we’re trying lots of things, hopefully we can get the right combination at the right time. I just want to win games for my team. If you look at the balance of our team, we need a finisher.”
The Warriors will have to make a quick transition as they play the same opposition, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, today, Sunday August 29, from 14:30h at Warner Park.
Meanwhile, captain of the Patriots, Dwayne Bravo, was a happy man as Patriots got the better of the strong Warriors.
“I am very happy, a great team effort. Guyana is one of the better teams in the tournament, so I give credit to my bowling group to restrict a very experienced batting line-up. That’s all we ask as a team: just have that hunger. It is a wicket that offers something for both spin and pace. And if you bat properly and apply yourself, you can make runs too, it’s a small ground. As long as you play the game smart, you’ll get the results,” Bravo said.
