“Popeye” jailed for theft

A Kitty, Georgetown, man is sailing to the Camp Street penitentiary where he will be serving a 12-month sentence after being charged and admitting to stealing a pressure washer.

Sheriff Azeez, called “Popeye”, 36, pleaded guilty to the charge when it was readcourt to him by Magistrate Annette Singh at Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on Friday.

The charge against him stated that on December 1, 2016, at Kitty, Georgetown, he stole one pressure washer valued $150,000 from Mitrau Rooplall.

Prosecutor Christopher Morris noted to the Court that after his arrest, the defendant admitted to carrying out the act and took Police Officers to where the item was hidden.

Magistrate Singh after hearing the facts of the matter sentenced the accused to 12 months in prison.
