A 26-year-old pork knocker is now dead following a mining pit accident which occurred on Sunday at the Arena Backdam in Region One.
The victim has been identified as Erroll Ramitt called “Tushi” of Port Kaituma, North West District.
At around 14:30hrs, Ramitt was in the mining pit operating a marrock engine when a piece of land fell and covered him.
Immediately following the incident, the man’s colleagues began digging in a bid to rescue him. However, it took then about an hour to do so, and when they found him, he was motionless.
The body was transported to the Port Kaituma Hospital where the man was pronounced dead.
Investigations are in progress.
