A 22-year-old pork-knocker was found dead on Christmas Day along the Obanna Backdam trail in the Kuribrong village, Region Eight (Potaro-Siparuni) with two stab wounds to his chest.
Dead is Samuel Gonsalves M Amo who hailed from the Tabatinga village, Lethem, Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo).
According to the Police, Amo was employed by a gold miner of Moruca, North West District (NWD), Region One (Barima-Waini), while working on a four-inch land dredge at Obanna Backdam.
He was last seen alive consuming alcoholic beverages with his friends on Christmas Eve.
Reports are that on Monday, Amo received his salary in raw gold from his employer and went to a nearby shop where he was seen imbibing with friends.
The group is said to have visited various shops before finally settling at one particular bar where they ushered in Christmas.
However, Amo allegedly left his friends at that shop stating that he was returning to his camp and ventured into the backdam area.
He was never seen again until a ranger discovered his lifeless body almost 19 hours later.
Reports are at about 18:30h, the ranger of that district was doing routine checks along the trail and noticed a large object on the roadway. As he reached closer, he realised that it was the body of a man.
The ranger immediately notified the Police and upon the arrival of the Police ranks, it was discovered that Amo had two visible stab wounds to the left side of his chest.
His body was taken to the Mahdia Hospital where he was pronounced dead and was placed in the mortuary pending a Post-Mortem Examination (PME).
Police Commander of that Region, Superintendent Ramesh Ashram told Guyana Times on Saturday that several persons were questioned about the man’s murder but at present, there are no suspects in custody.
He stated that the location of the crime is not populated and to date, no one has come forward with any information.
The Commander noted that all of the now-dead man’s friends that were imbibing with him were also questioned but they alleged that Amo had left their company shortly after 12:05h on Christmas Day. Police are investigating.
