Alex Algoo struck a fine 93 as Port Mourant toppled rivals Albion by 7 runs in the 2017 Balram Shane Memorial Trophy held at the Albion Community Center Ground, Sunday.
For the fourth edition of the tournament, Port Mourant have stormed to the title, this time after racking up 250 runs in their 45 overs after the National Under-19 batsman hit 93 off 96 deliveries with support coming from Samuel Kishnasammy 55, Troy Gonsalves 27, Marcus Watkins 13 and Demetri Cameron 12*.
Spearheading the Albion Cricket Club’s bowling was National spinner, Veerasammy Permaul who took 3-39 as Balchand Baldeo chipped in with 2-58 and Rajiv Ivan 2-47.
Albion Cricket Club in reply was kept to 243 in 45 overs with Kandasammy Surujnarine resisting with 54, Jonathon Foo 40, Adrian Sukwah 40 and David Latchaya 3; being among the scorers.
Skipper Lloydel Lewis led the bowling with 3-19 while seamer Kellon Carmichael grabbed 3-40 and pacer Nial Smith 2-40. Algoo was adjudged the best batsman while Lewis copped the Best bowler’s award.
The Balram Shane Competition is an Annual Memorial Game sponsored by the Shane family in memory of their late father Balram Shane.
