Port Mourant Turf Club set to come alive on December 2
On Sunday, December 2, 2018, the first-ever Race of Champions Horse Racing Meet organised by Jumbo Jet Thoroughbred Racing Committee will be hosted at the Port Mourant Turf Club in Corentyne, Berbice.
The event, which is billed to commence at noon, will include several races that will feature a most anticipated rematch between “Vera’s Finally” and “Just Call Me Boss”.
The meet will consist of 10 races with the first being the 1300 metres, whose winner will pocket a handsome cash prize of $1,937,500. Colts, geldings, fillies and mares 3 years and older, imported and locally-bred horses, C2 & Lower Colts and Geldings, will be eligible for this race.
Other races will include the 1500m (F Class) with a first prize of $775,000 and will be opened to colts, geldings, fillies and mares 3 years and older and to all West Indian and Guyana bred horses F & Lower.
The 1300m will see colts, gelding and fillies 2 years and older compete for $533,000.
The 1500m I Class carries a winner’s purse of $484, 000, the race is open to colts, geldings, fillies & mares 3 years and older, Guyana bred horses classified 1& Lower. It is also open to H-Class none-earners in Guyana.
For the 1300m J Class, the winner will walk away with $465,000. It is open to colts, gelding, fillies and mares 3 years and older and Guyana bred horses classified J3 & Lower.
Many other exciting races are expected to feature throughout the day.
All races will be conducted under the Guyana Horse Racing Rules, but horses must meet all requirements of the Jumbo Jet Thoroughbred Racing Committee, while horses are subject to reclassification pending the results of any race meeting prior to this one.
In the event, an animal has been scratched from the event, a medical has to accompany any request of refund, if not, a fee of G$5000 will be charged. All races will start on time and entries are to be paid and jockeys are to be weighed 15 minutes before post time; if not, the said race will be cancelled.
Entries will only be accepted via entry forms provided by the Jumbo Jet Thoroughbred Racing Committee.
