Port Mourant youngsters benefit from Cricket Gear project

Four Under-15 cricketers from the Port Mourant Cricket Club have received new cricket shoes through the ongoing “Cricket Gear for Young and Promising Cricketers in Guyana” project.
Fast bowlers Lakhram Sukhra and Mahesh Sukhoo, along with all-rounders Akeem Khan and Nicholas Beerbhajan, were each presented with a pair of cricket shoes as the initiative continued its support for promising young players across Guyana.
The footwear was donated through the support of Rajin Ramdeholl of Fluent Mortgage in Florida, Vishnu Dudnauth, Sohan Beer of Connecticut and Ramjot Singh of New York. Former Guyana and West Indies ‘B’ all-rounder Derrick Kallicharran also played an important role in securing the shoes.
The four recipients are currently attending secondary school and were encouraged to continue balancing their academic responsibilities with their development in cricket.

At a simple presentation ceremony, former Guyana senior cricketer and Port Mourant Cricket Club Coach Vijay Seonarine expressed appreciation to the sponsors for supporting the young players.
The focus of the project, which is coordinated by Anil Beharry in Guyana and Kishan Das in the United States, remains on assisting disciplined and talented young players while encouraging them to stay involved in positive sporting activities.
Over the years, the initiative has assisted a number of Guyanese cricketers, including players who later represented the West Indies at different levels.
To date, 112 male and female players from Guyana’s three counties have directly benefited from donations including cricket bats, footwear, batting pads, gloves, helmets, gear bags, protective equipment, trophies, and cash assistance.
The project has also provided equipment to cricket clubs, schools, associations and community programmes across the country. Beneficiaries have included organisations and players in Berbice, Demerara, Essequibo, the Pomeroon, Wakenaam, Leguan, Lethem, St Cuthbert’s Mission and the Upper Corentyne.
According to the organisers, donated equipment, whether new or used, is distributed free of cost to young and promising players. Recipients are selected based on talent, discipline, education and recommendations from cricket officials and club leaders.
Progressive clubs with active youth programmes are also considered for assistance.
Persons interested in contributing to the initiative can contact Anil Beharry on 623-6875 or Kishan Das on 1-718-664-0896.
