Porter arraigned for $1.2M theft

A porter of Mahaica, East Coast Demerara (ECD) was on Friday hauled before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, where he was arraigned for stealing $1.24 million in articles from his employer.

Charged: Sasenarine Nanu

Twenty-five-year-old Sasenarine Nanu pleaded not guilty to the charge which read that on December 12, 2019, at Lot 5 Public Road, La Penitence, Georgetown, while being employed as a clerk or servant of Ashraf Ali, he stole a quantity of footwear valued at $592,000 and a number of blankets valued $432,000.
The father of five worked as a porter for the Virtual Complainant. However, no facts were presented and no objections for bail were made by the prosecution.
As such, Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus granted the defendant his pre-trial liberty of bail in the sum of $100,000.
The matter was adjourned to February 14, 2020.
