Porter injured by Policeman while making peace

A porter was on Sunday evening lashed about his body with a bottle by an off-duty policeman as he attempted to make peace. The incident reportedly occurred at Middle Street Pouderoyen, West Bank Demerara (WBD).
The injured man was identified as Kester Norville, 24, a porter of Lot 55 Middle Street, Pouderoyen, WBD.
Based on information received, Norville was standing in front of his home when he observed that the policeman had dealt one blow to his friend’s face with a glass bottle. As a result, he intervened with the intention of bringing peace between his friend and the police constable.
However, the police officer became annoyed and dealt him several lashes to the head and body with the said bottle. Norville would have sustained injuries to his head and hands and was taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was treated and later sent away.
Guyana Times was told that the policeman was also escorted to the WDRH where he too was treated for injuries about his body. An investigation was launched into the incident.
