Porter remanded on B&E, larceny charges

A porter who was slapped with three counts of breaking and entering and larceny was remanded to prison when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
Rohan Benn appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts where he denied all the charges.
The first charge stated that between July 6 and July 7 while at One Mile, Port Kaituma, North West District (NWD), he stole items valued $520,000, property of Stephen Wong.
It was also alleged that between July 10 and July 17, while in the vicinity of Fitzburg, also in the NWD, he broke and entered the dwelling of Chandel Prophet and stole articles valued $220,000. The final charge stated that between July 30 and August 1, 2018, Benn stole another set of articles to the tune of $190,000, property of Cleavan Conway. However, these items were subsequently recovered. Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield objected to bail being granted while citing the serious nature of the offences. He also told the Court that the defendant gave two different home addresses when he was taken into Police custody.
The prosecution’s submission was upheld, and Benn was remanded to prison. The case will continue on August 6, 2018.
