Porter slapped with murder charge over death of pensioner

Charged: Yanick Williams, also called “Lashup” or “Gap”

One of three young men who were arrested for the death of 69-year-old Mohammed Faizul Shaheed, whose body was found in his Providence, East Bank Demerara (EBD) home, was arraigned with murder on Friday.
Twenty-two-year-old Yanick Williams, also called “Lashup” or “Gap”, of Back Street, Peter’s Hall, EBD, appeared before Senior Magistrate Dylon Bess at the Diamond/Grove Magistrate’s Court on Friday, where the charge was read to him.
The porter was not required to plead to the indictment and was remanded to prison until June 15, 2026.

Murdered: Mohammed Faizul Shaheed 

Williams was among three young men taken into custody on Monday last for the murder of Shaheed, known as “Fizul” and “Artist”, who was brutally murdered at his home between Saturday, May 16, 2026, and Tuesday, May 19, 2026.
It was reported that the deceased was last seen alive on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at about 21:00h. His partially decomposed body was discovered on Tuesday, May 19, by relatives who went to check on him after calls to his phone went unanswered.
An autopsy proved that he had died from a brain haemorrhage due to multiple blunt traumas to the head. Upon receiving this information and based on intelligence received, two teenagers along with Williams were identified as suspects and were subsequently arrested. Following investigations, a murder charge was instituted against Williams.
