Jason Smith and Robin Singh bulged the net for Potaro Strikers FC to defeat Beacon FC 2-nil and knock them out of the Bartica Baptist Church (BFA) under-15 tournament.
Potaro have now earned a place in the finale of this tournament — being promoted by the Bartica Baptist Church and its partner, Victory International Ministries, in collaboration with the Bartica Football Association.
For the Potaro Strikers, coming into the competition has been a stroll in the park. They dominated throughout the tournament, with Robin Singh being their standout in the team. In their last matchup, against Byderabo FC, Singh scored thrice for Potaro Strikers to have them defeat their opponents 7-0, and has thus far scored a total of four goals in two matches.
After five matches, three teams remain in contention. On day one, Potaro Strikers defeated newcomers Byderabo FC, while the following match saw Beacons FC emerging triumphant over Agatash FC.
In match #3, Mil Ballers FC went down to Rivers View FC, to give Rivers View the right to Saturday’s semi-final against Rising Stars FC, who defeated Lazio FC on Thursday last.
President of the Bartica Football Association (BFA), Alden Marslowe, when asked about the BFA partnership with the church, said the association looks forward to repeating this partnership on an annual basis, as it is a must for the development of the sport locally.
The third place playoff and finale will be played today from 14:00 hrs at the Bartica Secondary School Ground. The winners will receive trophies and medals, while all teams are guaranteed one ball and one set of football uniforms.
