Six years after an Edun Poultry Farms & Hatchery employee met his demise during an alleged robbery, the accused, Mahindra Bishundial, called “Tyrone”, of Grove, East Bank Demerara (EBD), is standing trial for the capital offence.
A 12-member mixed jury has been empaneled to hear the case after the accused denied the indictment, which stated that he murdered Aga Khan, 57, on November 6, 2012 at Busby Dam, Craig, EBD during the course of a robbery.
This current trial at the October Demerara Assizes is being heard by Justice Sandil Kissoon while Attorney Nigel Hughes is appearing for the man accused of murder. State Attorneys Orinthia Schmidt and Lisa Cave are prosecuting the case. A voir dire trial (trial within a trial) was heard at the High Court on Wednesday.
Reports had stated that Khan had been confronted by several robbers and he handed over a bag. It was also reported that he was subsequently shot, and was rushed to the Diamond hospital, where he had been pronounced dead on arrival.
It had also been reported that a porter was shot during the ordeal over five years ago. Police had said that Khan was driving motor lorry GJJ 2806, which was owned by his employer. It was observed that the men walked into the vehicle’s path and approached the now deceased man, ordering that he hand over cash.
