PPP/C 2025 Elections campaign launch: If you are an undecided voter, PPP is the party for you – Jagdeo
– says “you are our priority, you are part of our vision”
General Secretary (GS) of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) and Vice President of Guyana Dr Bharrat Jagdeo on Sunday made an appeal to undecided voters to throw their support behind the party, highlighting that it is the only political grouping that has proven it can take the country into the future.
Speaking at the party’s campaign launch at the Kitty Market Square before a “tsunami” of supporters, Jagdeo highlighted that the PPP/C is the only party that has unveiled a proper plan to take the country forward.
In fact, he posited that the PPP’s competitors have nothing to offer to the country’s citizens.
“(People) don’t want to go to a criminal party…because that has no future for their children. This guy is just trying to save his a… from jail,” Jagdeo said, referring to the party launched by US-sanctioned businessman Azruddin Mohamed.
He said the other parties have no clear plan to develop the country. Specifically, he referred to the APNU and AFC as “failed parties” that do not believe in good governance and democracy “They have no vision, no plan, they don’t have any achievement and they’re all about racism,” he said.
“If you are sitting at home undecided, this is the party for you,” Jagdeo emphasised. “Judge us on what we stand for, which is unity, progress; the party that takes care of people.”
According to Jagdeo, “every single one of you has seen how this country has changed in the last five years. I don’t need to tell you about roads we’ve built, because you’ve seen them. I don’t need to tell you about healthcare, or housing or water or education, because you’ve experienced them.”
Among other things, he highlighted how the PPP has transformed the lives of many people, by putting over 60,000 people back to work, and paving the way for some 40,000 to be studying at the tertiary level, and trained another 40,000 people.
He spoke about the distribution of over 50,000 house lots distributed, the implementation of free university education, the return of the children’s cash grant and joint services bonus, the doubling of old age pension, and the removal of the 200+ taxes that were imposed under the former APNU+AFC administration.
Jagdeo also pointed out that the PPP fulfilled its promise of “no new taxes”, and has significantly increased wages and salaries for public servants over the past five years.
The progress, he said, will continue under the next five years of the PPP government. “We have more jobs to provide, we have more cash grants to give, we have to take care of the elderly, we have to take care of our children…,” he expressed.
According to the PPP GS, “we have laid out plans for the future unlike any other party”.
Referring to the APNU and AFC’s claims that the PPP only managed to execute its plans because of oil money, Jagdeo contended “it’s not oil, stupid…it is good management.” Oil revenue only funds 37% of the budget, he pointed out.
The PPP GS explained that it is “not about how much money you have, it is what you choose to do with it” and the PPP has chosen to prioritise the citizens.
“You are our priority,” Jagdeo expressed, adding that “you are part of our vision”.
Meanwhile, Jagdeo declared that the PPP will secure a landslide victory at this year’s General and Regional Elections on September 1.
He said this is an easy campaign but what is important is getting people out to vote and getting the votes counted.
Jagdeo noted that a PPP victory is inevitable but only “if you do the work”.
“We can’t take chances with the lives of our people and our children’s future,” Jagdeo said.
“I need every one of you here…to promise me that when you go back to the communities, you will work to carry our message,” he said.
Referring to some of the political competitors who are sponsoring campaigns via social media, Jagdeo contended that “the internet doesn’t vote, people do, and we have the numbers here.”
The PPP GS also encouraged supporters to be vigilant and diligent during this election period, cautioning that the opposition “would come with all sorts of crookedness”.
