– call for the removal of GECOM Chairman and CEO
Scores of the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) supporters in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) on Wednesday took to the streets, sounding their voices once again for the removal of Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) Chairman, Dr Steve Surujbally and Chief Elections Officer (CEO)Keith Lowenfield.
Party supporters calmly protested in front of GECOM’s Anna Regina office, and held tight to their placards, which featured, among other slogans, “Leadership for GECOM is corrupt, Steve and Keith must go!”, “GECOM squandering taxpayers money and stole the entire election” , “Recount my vote now”, and ”Cheated but not defeated”.
The peaceful picketing exercise lasted almost three hours and according to the Party’s supervisor in Region Two, Vishnu Samaroo, the exercise will continue until supporters get justice.
The supporters called for a total recount of the 2015 election ballots, and the hearing of the election petition. The picketing exercise is one of a number of exercises conducted by PPP/C supporters to express their dissatisfaction over the May 11, 2015 elections.
