Pregnant woman, fiancé feared dead after outing at Unity Beach

An eight-month first-time mother and her fiancé are feared dead after they reportedly went for a swim at Unity Beach, East Coast Demerara (ECD), and never surfaced on Sunday. Missing are 20-year-old Lyodisa “Loyda” Waldron, a sales representative, and 31-year-old Andri Francis, a Special Constable, both of Victoria Village, ECD. Based on reports received on the day in question, at about 14:00h, Waldron and Francis were swimming at Unity Beach when Waldron reportedly began drifting deeper into the Atlantic Ocean and called out for assistance. Hearing her screams, Francis reportedly went to assist her, during which both of them were pulled under due to the strong current and disappeared. An alarm was raised, and checks were made for the couple but to no avail. The police were contacted, and an investigation was initiated. Up to press time, the couple was still missing. Two years ago, two friends – Navin Seenauth, 20, and Daniel Boodram, 17, both residents of Unity Village, drowned at the same beach where they went for a swim with a group of friends.

It was reported despite the rough waters, the young men proceeded to swim. Another friend who couldn’t swim exited the water. After some time, the friend noticed his friends were no longer visible in the water and searched for them but to no avail. He went back to the village and raised an alarm. The bodies of the missing young men were subsequently found.
