All systems are going to plan for Sunday’s McDonald Promotions Patrick Ford Memorial boxing card being held at the National Gymnasium, this is according to Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) President Steve Ninvalle in an interview with <<Guyana Times Sport>> on Thursday.
Ninvalle highlighted that Lucia’s Nathan Ferrari is set to arrive today and the Surinamese and Trinidadians coming Saturday. Ferrari’s bout with Guyana’s Colin ‘Superman’ is one which the GBA head is eager to witness given the history between the two fighters. The boiling water stems from Lewis flooring Ferrari at home on his way to gold at the Caribbean Boxing Championship in 2017.
Guyana’s marque youth fighter and Commonwealth Youth Games silver medallist, Keevin Allicock will touch gloves with Trinidad’s Christopher de Freitas in the bantamweight bash.
The GBA boss is of the contention the fourteen bouts, two of which are female fights will be showcasing a mixture of talent, some experienced, some inexperience and elite.
Eyes will be on Savannah Boxing Gym (Region Nine) who will be represented by its `Golden Girl’ Julicia Rodney and Troy Nero; fighters will also be coming from Mabaruma (Region One)
Regarding honour Ford who died in 2011 after won sixteen consecutive professional bouts including the Commonwealth featherweight title in a career which spanned from 1978-1980, Ninvalle plans to do more just engrave a plaque but develop academies named after Ford along with other standout performers.
It is also understood that only the third time in five years will a computerized scoring system be used for a boxing card in the country. The show begins at 19:00h and tickets for ringside cost $1500 and $1000 elsewhere.
Meanwhile, on Thursday, Tower Suits added a late boost to the card via sponsorship. Ninvalle thanked the entity for their support and pledge that it will go a long way in helping to stage what he expects to be fierce competition all night long.
