President Ali announces revival of Inter-Guiana Games
His Excellency President Dr Irfaan Ali has announced the resuscitation of the Inter-Guiana Games.
This announcement was made on Thursday as a Surinamese Government delegation headed by President Chandrikapersad Santokhi made a State Visit to Guyana.
Last held in Suriname in 2017, the Games will cater for student athletes at the U20 level. Both Heads of State have noted that advantage should be taken of the Inter-Guiana Games and Inter-Guiana Cultural Festivals for increasing people-to-people contact.
Further, they acknowledged the importance of strengthening collaboration between universities.
President Ali also said, “Key to all of this is our people-to-people partnership, that is bringing our people together in a space and environment that they can share and appreciate each other. Bringing back the Inter-Guiana Games, the Inter-Guiana Cultural Forum and platform that was started so that we can have sports, culture, education and technological exchanges as part of greater unity, trust, collaboration and understanding of our peoples.”
The Inter-Guiana Games would see Suriname, Guyana and French Guiana duke it out as they participate in sporting activities such as football, volleyball, basketball, cycling, swimming, track-and- field, chess and badminton.
