President Ali convenes CARICOM sub-committee on cricket

In a decisive move for the sport within the region, President Dr Irfaan Ali convened a meeting of CARICOM’s Prime Ministerial Sub-Committee on Cricket on Wednesday, a social media post indicated.
The Head of State wrote, “This morning, I chaired the virtual meeting of CARICOM’s Prime Ministerial Sub-Committee on Cricket.
Discussions focused on the development of the cricket ecosystem from the community to the professional level, covering senior male and female cricketers as well as upcoming youngsters.
The strengthening of cricket administration, infrastructure, and the business of cricket, along with improved partnerships with the private sector, also formed part of the agenda.”
President Dr Irfaan Ali was accompanied by Sport Minister Charles Ramson Jr and Minister within the Subject Ministry, Steven Jacobs. Also in physical attendance was renowned former Guyanese and West Indian batsman Ramnaresh Sarwan.
In addition, to the CARICOM officials who joined virtually, legendary former West Indies Captain Sir Clive Lloyd was also in attendance virtually.
Back in February 2025, President Dr Irfaan Ali had been chosen to replace former Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister Keith Rowley as Chairman of the Sub-Committee at the 48th CARICOM Heads of Government meeting in Barbados.
