President Ali pledges $11.5M to enhance community centres in East Berbice

President Irfaan Ali on Saturday visited several communities in Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne), where he donated sports gears to several cricket clubs and pledged millions of dollars towards the enhancement and maintenance of community centre grounds.

The Head of State visited Port Mourant, where he met with, and engaged, scores of residents as he fielded questions from persons and enlightened them on some of the plans his Government has to improve their livelihoods.
President Ali also donated sports gears to two cricket clubs from the community, and earmarked some $9.5 million for the enhancement and maintenance of the Community Centre ground.

He also promised to ensure that most of the jobs resulting from works to be done on the Community Centre ground would stay within the community.
President Ali also met with Corriverton residents who gathered at the Line Path Community Centre ground, and after listening to their concerns, he outlined Government’s plans for the Region.
Further, he donated sports gears to two other cricket clubs in the Corriverton township, and committed a further $2 million for the enhancement and maintenance of the Line Path Community Centre ground at Skeldon, Corriverton.
During today’s visit to Region Six, President Ali was accompanied by other members of Government, including Agriculture Minister Zulfikar Mustapha and Minister within the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development, Anand Persaud.
